the Birmingham Territory Chapter of the DAR!

Important dates to remember:

·     September 11 – Patriot Day: Let us pause and honor the lives lost and the heroes who answered the call.

 

·     September 17–23 – Constitution Week: community outreach to promote understanding of our Constitution.

 

·     September 17 – Constitution Day: Remember to ring your bells at 4:00 p.m. and join the nationwide commemoration. One of our goals for the #250for250 project is to participate in 250 bell-ringing ceremonies.

What a way to start off the New Year with our amazing January speaker! Ruth Cook is the author of "Guests Behind the Barbed Wire, German POW's in America: A True Story of Hope and Friendship." 6,000 German POW's were housed in Aliceville, Alabama during WW II. From 1942-1945, Camp Aliceville operated as one of the largest POW camps in America. This story showed the relationship between the prisoners and the communities around the camp. Ms.Cook has written several books on Alabama and had them for sale at the meeting.

 Our cherished chapter member, Sara Craft, passed away on December 18, 2024. Earlier that month, Sara celebrated her 64th anniversary in DAR. She served as chapter regent 1971-1973 and many other positions. One of her greatest loves was the KDS School in Grant, Alabama.

 It is this Chapter's goal to foster patriotism and love for God, Home and Country.  Help make this happen by getting involved with our service projects, as well as suggesting possible new endeavors.  An example of some of our past Service projects include:

The Birmingham Territory April Meeting at The Club included a wonderful presentation by Col. Alan Miller, President and CEO of American Village.  Col. The October meeting was a TREAT! Thank you to John Gillum for teaching us about the Aliceville WWII Prisoner of War Museum and to all our Members that helped stuff goodie bags for the Ronald McDonald House.

 

Welcome to the Birmingham Territory Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a group of patriotic, caring women in the greater Birmingham, Alabama area dedicated to activities that promote our country’s history and heritage.

We are a nonpartisan group of women who have traced their lineage to men and women patriots who served in or provided aid to the Revolutionary War. Chapter members support the three objectives of the National Society DAR: historic preservation, promotion of education and patriotic endeavor.

The more than 80 chapter members include juniors (ages 18 to 35), mothers, daughters, sisters and friends who span the generations. The group meets for lunch on the second Tuesday of the month from September through May for project updates and interesting programs featuring history, education, conservation, national defense and women’s issues. 

We welcome new members and provide help to those interested in tracing their descent from patriots of the American Revolution.
